Inauguration Day 1-20-2021

Today we witnessed a #transition, and while some will say back to normal, I say, a change of an evolutionary future. A future with a #President that cares, understands everyday people's troubles and challenges, a man that knows the term, #LoveThyNeighbor, a #VicePresident that is a first, a woman of color, who knows struggle, and has love within, now that is a future I can get behind.

The last four years terrorized me, the idea that someone could incite #racism, #misogyny #xenophobia, and indecency as the leader of a nation I once knew, was terrifying. I won’t write much more about that terror as I do not wish to give it any more energy, with the #inauguration of @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris, I'd rather focus energy on this event.

On January 20, 2021, at approximately 11:11 AM EST, Kamala Harris walked out into the inaugural ceremony, and I watched with tears in my eyes. The first, #WomanOfColor, and of #ImmigrantDescent, was elected to be the next Vice President of the #UnitedStates, this is amazing history.

Following Kamala Harris was Joe Biden, an elected presidential candidate that at the time, understood the importance of selecting a woman of color to be his running mate, when he did that, I can recall my hopelessness beginning to fade. I was reminded of the #hope, the #future of what this #country could be, and I was brought back to what was happening before my eyes this day. I recalled how my parents came to this country with hope, with #possibilities of what their children could be here, and today I was reminded of that hope, today I felt I could breathe again.

Though there is a lot of work to do, the transition today shows that we are closer than where we were headed a few weeks back. I believe today we pivoted away from #regression, regression that would have set back any progress made the last 60+ years, today I felt we are headed in the right direction.

Thank you @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris, for giving us hope, for providing the comfort that was lacking, for reminding us that #love, #compassion, #truth, and #unity will always prevail over #hate, lies, selfishness and division. Today, our #democracy, and #country have an opportunity for a brighter #future.
